We climb to the northern highlands of Tanzania, at an altitude of 1500-2000m. This is one of the most visited areas in Tanzania. Unsurprisingly. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area is home to one of Africa's wonders – the Ngorongoro Crater. It is the largest dry volcanic caldera in the world and is home to an extraordinary population of animals. The natural barrier formed by the caldera around the crater has allowed the animals to evolve in their own direction over thousands of years, genetically different from the animals in the surrounding parks. This is especially true for the lion prides from the crater and the pearl of Ngorongoro – the African black rhino.
