Trekking along the East African Rift Valley

A true gem for those who love to hike.

Embark on a genuine ancient pilgrimage along Maasai trails, past extinct volcanic craters, crater lakes, and herds of buffalo.

This is the region of the northern Tanzanian highlands, where endless grasslands, forests, and picturesque Maasai villages (bome) delight the eye.

The meadows and trees are in constant bloom, which is why the Maasai have been gathering honey here for centuries—honey that will give us strength on our journey. We’ll hike with Maasai guides and sleep in tents. To make the hike easier, our donkey friends will be by our side—and, most importantly, carrying our luggage on their backs.

This trek itself is not exceptionally demanding. However, you will need to be in good walking condition and prepared to walk several hours a day (3–5 hours), as well as have good hiking boots. Those who are better prepared will be able to climb Oldoinyo Lengai volcano at the end of the trek (5–6 hours of ascent and 5–6 hours of descent). The rest of you can enjoy the night howls of hyenas and the morning calls of eagles in the valley…

“Maasai, Datoga, Iraqw, Sonjo… are just some of the African peoples who still live in these areas today. Each tribe has its own specific culture and way of life. But they all share a sacred mountain—Oldoinyo Lengai. For centuries, all these peoples have revered this mountain as the seat of God, which is why they have come from places more than a hundred kilometers away to the foot of the sacred mountain for various offerings, ceremonies, rituals, supplications, and prayers.”

The trek ends in the volcanic region around Lake Natron, where we recommend spending 2–3 days relaxing. Your trek can be combined with a visit to the national parks as part of a classic safari.

Ngorongoro-Lengai UNESCO Global Geopark

“Tanzania is not just about animals and ancient tribes”

The Ngorongoro area, Lake Natron, and the Ol Doinyo Lengai volcano are protected by UNESCO as sites of exceptional geological significance. You’ll witness distinct tectonic fault lines and an endless array of different rocks, which serve as a living testament to the Earth’s changing surface over millions of years and the formation of today’s continents. The seemingly monochromatic landscape along the fault line conceals a thousand colors and shades. As you walk through the landscape, you’ll be surprised by the earth, rocks, and stones of various colors, spanning a dramatic range of time periods since their formation.

Zanzibar

Want to experience the soul of a coral island? Then you’ve come to the right place. Discover parts of Zanzibar that remain hidden from many tourists. Get to know the lively people, the rich Islamic tradition, and the singing and dancing that blend African, Indian, and Arab influences. Venture into plantations of cloves, cinnamon, banana trees, coconut palms, century-old mango trees, and baobabs. Close your eyes in the silence of the mangrove forest, or head out to the ocean with our friends, where dolphins will surprise you.

Together, we can go on a long hike deep into the tropical forest, where you’ll meet playful endemic monkeys… And further on, to the Mother of Mahogany—the mother of all Zanzibar’s mahogany trees. Stroke the elders of the islands, the famous Seychelles tortoises, who will gladly let you rest your gentle hands on their necks.

Zanzibar also hides many secrets beneath the surface. With us, you can descend into the wonderful underground world of coral caves, which will sing you a song—yes, you read that right…

You can spice all this up with a visit to classic Zanzibari tourist destinations like Stone Town. Discover its rich yet bittersweet history of ancient trade routes.

Bury yourself in the sand on an endless sandy beach, soak up the tropical sun, sip fresh coconut water, and play soccer on the beach with the locals.

Above all, enjoy fresh tropical fruit, vegetables, and exceptional cuisine.
