Africa and its hidden power

It is the art of peace. The art of meditation. The art of observation. The art of words. The art of integrity in communication. The art of wilderness. The art of the animal kingdom. The art of indigenous peoples. The art of the circle of life and death. It is art inspired by the rhythms of Mother Africa.

It is the art of two people who have combined their abilities and life missions into one heart.

Healing Africa

Healing Africa

Mnyama kadumbu
He who keeps silent, endures

-Swahili proverb-

Africa’s hidden power also lies in the healing power of its nature. Discover the healing power of trees and plants that the local tribes have known for many generations. Many of these recipes remain a secret and are not revealed to just anyone.

By visiting the Maasai people beneath their sacred mountain—Ol Doinyo Lengai—we made wonderful friends, including several elders and Maasai mothers who know traditional ancient recipes for various ailments. They carefully gather roots, leaves, bark, and fruits of the trees and prepare them in various ways, often depending on the lunar and solar cycles. This is how they create medicinal preparations that successfully treat even serious illnesses like malaria. On this page, you can follow our exploration of Maasai herbal medicine through various video clips. Better yet, join us on a safari to this beautiful region and experience the extraordinary botanical resources for yourself.

The Maasai do not cut down medicinal trees; instead, they care for them as if they were part of the community.

Since many trees have medicinal properties, this contributes significantly to the preservation of the natural environment. In their traditional prayers, they also ask for their children to inherit some quality of the medicinal trees—such as strength, stability, long life, regeneration, or even to have hair as lush as the canopy of a certain tree…

“A touch of Maasai healing and the simplicity of life that I experienced while living with the Maasai in the Simanjiro area, Tanzania. The contact with Luka, a Maasai elder who was 140 years old when I arrived, was extraordinary. He left his body six months after my visit…”

Muyuni Sunrise

Alisifuye jua limemuangaza
The sun shines on the one who praises it.

-Swahili proverb-

Muyuni is a white sandy beach in northeastern Zanzibar. Muyuni is at its most beautiful in the early morning, when the first rays of the sun rising over the Indian Ocean embrace it into a new day. It is the birthplace of the MUYUNI SUNRISE radio station. In an ancient African language, Muyuni means “salty.” So you could say we’re “broadcasting from the salt flats.”

We bring you exclusive content, African stories, music, spirituality, and the exceptionally rich literature and expressions of Africa. You can also hear about personal insights from our travels, safaris, and general exploration of Tanzania.

The radio programs also touch on the stories and teachings of ancient masters, spirituality, poetry, music, stories—culture and art beyond Africa.

All of this with the desire to nurture humanity, beauty, depth, insights, and the diversity of the soundscapes of “our” wonderful home—Earth.

We broadcast from the Muyuni Sunrise radio station every Sunday at seven in the evening. Your radio host is Aljaž Jovanović. Each program lasts two hours.
